This project's aim is to delay the forest cuts planned for the area, implementing instead a new forest management plan called "Fo-restare." This is a pun of the italian word "foresta," or forest, in English. Part of the word, "resta," taken by itself, can be translated to "remain." Hence, the projec t's aim is to make the forest remain where it is supposed to be!
How the project works
Safeguard and protection. These are the two principles that guide the forest management plan of the Monterano nature reserve, near Rome. This is one of the many Italian forest heritage treasures home to biodiversity and ecosystems deserving of proper care.
Phoresta is a non-profit association whose founding members share an interest in achieving the parameters set by the Kyoto Protocol, namely the reduction of the atmospheric concentration of Co2, one of the major causes of global warming. Phoresta aims to create the conditions for a more livable planet by adopting a coherent economic life (or coherent lifestyles) with biodiversity, sustainability and the maintenance of natural capital.
Why this project
The project is planned and executed in close collaboration with local partners and contributes to the socio-economic development of the benefitting communities.
